I am Sophie and I have a job! The company that laid me off back in May has hired me back on part time. To be honest, I like to have the opportunity to work in my profession, but still have time to get things done around the house and go running, etc. If and when the job allows full time, then I will gladly take it. Since I have been unemployed for the past 9 months, it's good to ease back into the working life.
One of my thoughts when starting this blog was to write about being unemployed and the frustrations of job searching. Since I have a job now, it would be good to write about learning as a young designer. I still have a lot to learn about and I'm excited to have the opportunity to be back in the game. My goal is to be a licensed Interior Designer and I'm half way through my required work experience. Maybe I should start studying for the test. I'm a little scared because I've heard how hard it is. I know I can jump that hurdle though.
Passing the NCIDQ test is just one of the things that I'm intimidated by. Another has been running. I know and meet people all the time who run marathons and I think, "I can never do that". Why not though? Why do I think I can't do it? I've never tried it and I hate running. That's why. I don't want that to be a reason that it keeps me from trying though. Right now, I'm able to run a mile and a half. That's far from a marathon! I have hope that I can get there one day. Starting out with a 5k is good for me. Taking baby steps is better than taking none at all! One of the secrets that I've figured out is to focus on breathing. People have said that to me before, but I guess I didn't understand it. Yesterday while running, I figured out that if I pay attention to my breathing it helps keep my heart rate down, which results with not having to gasp for air and feeling like I'm about to pass out. I have a heart rate monitor, every runner should have one, wow did I just say"runner"?! I guess I am one now! I try to take slow long breathes in and then let it out.
Here are some photos of the park I've been running at. It has a small lake and a paved trail around it for running and walking. The trail measures 1.3 miles.
and I carry mace. So don't mess with me!
